چکیده

Introduction Diffusion tensor based voxel-wise analysis (DT-VBA) has been increasingly used to investigate subtle differences in brain white matter microstructure among various types of patient groups and groups of control subjects.[1-2] The method provides an inference of inter-group differences in white matter integrity on a voxel-wise basis in a standardized space. Spatial normalization is an important preprocessing step in DT-VBA analysis and is used to reduce inter-subject anatomical variability by registering each image volume to a standard space.[3-5] Varieties of reference template and processing procedures exist in the implementation of DT-VBA.[6] It is still not clear which image processing procedure may produce more plausible or more accurate results. The purpose of this study is to systematically evaluate the effects and accuracy of varying reference template and image preprocessing procedure of the DT-VBA.

The effect of template selection on diffusion tensor imaging voxel based analysis results

Introduction: In recent years, voxel based analysis (VBA) studies have demonstrated the potential of diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) to detect white matter (WM) damage in patients with various neurological or psychiatric disorders. In VBA, all DTI data sets are transformed to an atlas or template, whereafter the diffusion measures of control subjects and patients are evaluated in each voxel. In ...

The Importance of Group-Wise Registration in Tract Based Spatial Statistics Study of Neurodegeneration: A Simulation Study in Alzheimer's Disease

Tract-based spatial statistics (TBSS) is a popular method for the analysis of diffusion tensor imaging data. TBSS focuses on differences in white matter voxels with high fractional anisotropy (FA), representing the major fibre tracts, through registering all subjects to a common reference and the creation of a FA skeleton. This work considers the effect of choice of reference in the TBSS pipeli...

Voxel-Wise Analysis of Diffusion Tensor Imaging for Clinical Outcome of Cochlear Implantation: Retrospective Study

OBJECTIVES To evaluate retrospectively, the possible difference in diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) metric of fractional anisotropy (FA) between good and poor surgical outcome cochlear implantation (CI) patients using investigator-independent voxel-wise analysis. METHODS Eighteen patients (11 males, 7 females; mean age, 5.9 years) with profound sensorineural hearing loss underwent DTI scans usi...

Automated Voxel-Wise Brain DTI Analysis of Fitness and Aging

Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI) has become a widely used MR modality to investigate white matter integrity in the brain. This paper presents the application of an automated method for voxel-wise group comparisons of DTI images in a study of fitness and aging. The automated processing method consists of 3 steps: 1) preprocessing including image format converting, image quality control, eddy-curre...
